WACA is an architectural practice formed in 2010 from a network of architects between the Asia- Pacific regions. Design expertise between the three partners forms multiplicity of ideas, skills and technologies. Each partner is experienced in a variety of project types at different scales, ranging from private to corporate to public sector clients. WACA "incorporates" rather than "excludes", so that the maximum amount of ideas and productivity can be compressed into our work. We aim to produce original, practical and efficient sustainable solutions tailored to client requirements, within budget and on time. We believe each project should be unique reinforcing the client's identity and responding to the changing needs of users. Based in Shenzhen, China and with offices in Kuala Lumpur, our main body of works is gathered around China, which presents and offers numerous building types as projects. With her myriad cultures and ethnics authenticity, there also lie the opportunities for our team to research the country's history, culture and geographical landscape to interpret and perhaps address, as architectural entities. Each projects attempt to draw inspiration from the surrounding locality, with close and detailed attention given to its customs, cultures, habits, materials fabric and even mannerism of the local inhabitants. Functionality is also an essential part of Chinese architecture, in some places it is more emphasized than others, as such the combination of both efficient functions with meaningful and poetic rhetoric in a piece of architecture (urban or rural) is a chance of a challenge not usually readily available to any. We see this as an opportunity to create a new architecture, based on the context and cultures of this Asia-Pacific realm region, with China taking the lead. Furthermore, with careful integration of current architecture across the world, the term East meets West may stand to more meaningful interpretations.
