Xander Bremer is a San Francisco-based independent artist and designer who creates objects that ask How can less be more? In all his work, the supporting physics, structures, mechanisms, and materials are pulled to the fore and celebrated. The result is simplified, iconic forms that become the voice for a philosophy in which living simply makes us richer.
In addition to his own work and collaborations, Xander teaches design and fabrication at Stanfords Product Realization Lab. He is also currently working mechanism design at Olson Kundig Architects before starting as an artist in residence at Autodesks Pier 9 workshop this fall. Xander has studied art, fabrication, and design at Stanfords Joint Program in Design, an interdisciplinary masters program in art and engineering. Previously, he earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at Columbia University and started a business doing composite repairs on high-end racing bicycles. Xander also spent five years racing bikes professionally across the U.S. and on the cobbled roads of Europe.
