ida + Museum of design art & Architecture exhibit celebrating world innovation in great design
Celebrating winners of the 2007 International Design Awards
Visionary work by forty-four finalists of the 2007 International Design Awards will be exhibited at the Museum of Design Art and Architecture in Culver City March 8-14, 2008, representing modern design in Europe, Asia and the Americas. The opening reception will take place Sunday, March 9 from 6-9 pm, and press members, designers and friends are invited to come celebrate their work, which will be represented in the gallery in photographs and onsite.
In 2007, its first year, the International Design Awards received 1,000 entries in architecture and the design of interiors and products, graphics and fashion. The 127 winners ultimately represented 54 cities internationally, offering an exclusive and inspiring survey of what the designers of the manmade world are imagining and creating in response to the world's increasingly dynamic environmental and cultural restraints.
"The goal of the International Design Awards is to honor and bring to the public the work of visionaries and emerging and mid-career talent. We hope to ultimately bring together the innovators, the buyers and the press in order to encourage the adoption of design that solves problems -- and, hopefully, helps the world," says Hossein Farmani, IDA founder.
The IDA jury included some of the top design editors internationally: Michael Cannell, Editorial Director, Dwell.com; John Dunnigan, Head of the RISD Department of Furniture Design; Josh Rubin, Editor in Chief, coolhunting.com; Newell Turner, Style Director, House Beautiful; Laurence Ng, Publisher, idN News; David Hertz, AIA; Gwynne Pugh, AIA; Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan, apartment therapy; Rido Busse, famed product designer and Chairman of the German Trade and Industry Board; and others.
Designers and architects with work exhibited in the show include the IDA Designer of the Year Skidmore, Owings & Merrill for the New York-based firm's work on the Al-Rahji Bank tower in Riyadh; and projects by 1st Place Landscape Designer Vladimir Djurovic, Lebanon; IDA Interior Designer of the Year Ministry of Design, Singapore; Product Designer of the Year Humanscale, New York; Graphic Designer of the Year Volume Inc, San Francisco; Fashion Designers of the Year Mintee and Maria Cornejo; and others.
The event will feature a bourbon-tasting lounge sponsored by Maker's Mark; and is also sponsored by Hennessey + Ingalls art and design bookstore; Museum of Design Art and Architecture; the Architecture + Design Museum; and Core77 Industrial Design.
The Museum of Design Art and Architecture is located at 8609 E. Washington Blvd., Culver City, California, 90232.
