ida presents architectural digest photographer jim mchugh in his exhibit "l.a. skies"

IDA hosted celebrated architecture photographer Jim McHugh, famous for his years photographing celebrities in their homes for covers of "Architectural Digest", for the opening of his enthusiastically-received show "L.A. Skies" during WestWeek at the Pacific Design Center on Wednesday, March 26.

The photos, for sale by appointment at the Pacific Design Center until the end of April, offer an ethereal look at the city's facades of stone, decorated with artful neon logos suggesting the early days of the City of Angels as the world's glamour capital. They render the city a romantic dreamscape composed of shadows, concrete, stone and moody skies: both bewitching and transporting. Appropriately, McHugh used a Polaroid to capture the city -- a culture-defining product whose imminent discontinuation promises it mythical and sentimental status itself.

Attendees included "Architectural Digest" Art Director Jeffrey Nemeroff; "Architectural Digest" Photography Director James G. Huntington; interior designer Tim Corrigan; interior designer Kevin Corn; and International Design Awards Founder Hossein Farmani.

"Jim McHugh's sensibility for architecture and his sensitivity to photographic processing are to be lauded, as well as his versatility in both fine art and journalistic photography," said Farmani. "His work is rare, and among the best in the journaling of buildings and their cultural significance."
