Vice Versa House re-introduces the spirit of “looking after one another” of an indigenous village in a contemporary context. Extend the existing organic fabric was considered a strategy during site planning to create a sense of privacy while also allowing for public interactions of various degrees. The architectural layout integrates the external village fabric within the interior through the idea of an “internal village street”. The brother house’s circulation is designed as street form to create a dialogue across three family generations. Transitioning from G/F living room,1/F bedrooms, 2/F master bedrooms to roof gardens establishes visual connections around four orientations that weaves different families together and reinforces the “look after one another” spirit. Therefore the movements of daily life become multi-dimensional interactions with other family members and the surrounding public spaces; the collective open space also fosters unity. The houses exhibit the influence of the local village spirit from the inside to outside, and vice versa.
