When a musician from the Midwest returned to Los Angeles in 2010, a tri-level property on a particularly panoramic stretch of Mulholland Drive in the Hollywood Hills caught his eye. The new homeowner enlisted interior designer Nina Petronzio, of Plush Home, to re-face the house and make it much more handsomely detailed and true to form. The existing home was detailed with dark wood trims and doors that managed to draw attention away from the glorious views of the city and canyon. Nina immediately began by painting all the doors and trim detail shades of white, which also gave the homeowner the contemporary aesthetic that he preferred. She replaced all divided windows with single panes to frame and open up the views; skim coated the textured walls, redesigned the doors, and installed more refined and proportional moldings. “My desire was to make the house more fitting with its locale” says Nina. “The homeowner has a contemporary, masculine, serene taste,” recollects Nina, who created a subtle color scheme that complimented the natural hues of the canyon. Nina delivered bolder colors and patterns via throw pillows, accessories, and fine art from Plush Home art curator Linda Steinberg (including original Robert Motherwells and bronze sculptures from Robertino Petronzio). All furnishings are bespoke from the Plush Home collection, many of which were first generation and now staples to the line. Wood species vary from mahogany to wenge to macassar ebony in varying finishes chosen to represent the homeowner’s taste.
Nina Petronzio co-founded the full-service interior design firm and luxury furniture line Plush Home Inc. with Steven Ho in 2003. Based out of its celebrated Melrose Avenue showroom in West Hollywood, and with design center representations in Chicago and Denver, Nina’s interior designs and furnishings have an international clientele which ranges throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Daughter of renowned sculptor Robertino Petronzio, Nina cites her European roots and family background as a basis for her work. Though each of her projects varies in style and usage, the one constant is a classic yet updated sensibility, a loyalty to clean lines, and an exquisite choice of materials. “I become inspired through my client’s personal tastes. I take pride in being able to express their individuality through my own eyes†she says. With her beginnings in luxury residential and commercial properties, Nina’s diverse portfolio includes the 2001 complete remodel of Mark Wahlberg’s 15,000 square foot Beverly Hills ranch style residence, Brillstein Entertainment’s contemporary-chic New York office in the Tribeca Building, Leonardo DiCaprio’s production offices in Los Angeles, and a renovation and design of Neve Campbell’s charming 1800’s London residence. It didn’t take long for Nina’s steadfast clients and colleagues to spread the word about her bespoke furniture line. In the past decade, Nina’s Plush Home collection has been specified by influential interior designers, set decorators, and FF&E companies worldwide for important hotels, estates, and film & television productions. With her fine hand-crafted furnishings specified for some of the world’s most acclaimed hotels, it was a natural progression for Nina to utilize the logistics department and manufacturing arms of her firm for high-end hospitality clients. In November 2011, Nina was named the in-house interior designer for the Montage Beverly Hills.
