Lead Designers
Entry Description

The Tao Cocktail Table merges modern simplicity and Eastern design philosophy. Exciting details include subtly canted edges, and a versatile hole in the top that perfectly accents floral vases or prized sculptures. Conceptualized for entertaining guests, a custom serving tray fits snugly into the hole to complete the top. Other custom trays selections include a bamboo cheese board, acid-etched glass, marble or slate.

Bio

New York-based Hellman-Chang began from lifelong friends Daniel Hellman and Eric Chang. The two began teaching themselves how to build furniture in their parents' suburban garage during their summers in high-school. Though they shared the same passion for the arts, they chose separate paths in college. Hellman attended Northwestern University?s School of Music for Classical Guitar Performance, and Chang went to NYU?s Stern School of Business for Finance and Marketing. The two friends reunited in New York to revive their hobby of furniture design. They then received formal training in studio-grade furniture production techniques under some of New York?s top custom furniture manufacturers, and created various pieces for many A-list clientele. Hellman-Chang was officially founded two years ago when the two began designing pieces for their own private clients. In 2006 they won an Interior Design Magazine Best of Year Design Award for the Z Pedestal. Since then, the young duo has been designing and creating unique pieces for major projects around the country: from bar tables for the new Four Seasons Seattle Restaurant and presidential suite, cocktail tables for the ultra-exclusive Setai San Diego VIP Pool Lounge (named one of the Top 10 Places to Visit in the World in 2008 by Cond? Nast), furniture pieces for the New York Esquire House, to tables for the offices of Sotheby?s. Their unique product line is based on the principle of mixing their highly distinctive, bold design with traditional, heirloom-quality craftsmanship. The result is an American collection that is uniquely modern, yet gracious and livable for the home. Their full line is also now available through designer showrooms nationwide in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and Seattle. Each piece is made to order by hand in their New York studio.
