Entry Description

The Herman Miller Ardea is a new task light inspired by nature with minimal impact on the environment. With an emphasis on low-energy consumption, green design, and extreme motion possibilities, Ardea is an innovative mid-price entry.

The body of the light is an aluminum extrusion that twists ninety degrees, the result of an innovation in manufacturing. This performance driven aesthetic twist provides stability to the head, while allowing infinite adjustments both vertically and horizontally. Flexible, fabric sheathed joints at the base and at the head offer the user multi-axis adjustability for practical, stable and convenient lighting control.
Named after a genus of birds known as the great herons, the Ardea displays similar versatility as the birds necks that flex for hunting.

A warm, even light is achieved by using a 13-watt mini-fluorescent bulb incased in a reflector that provides an ergonomic and even light distribution, while the head remains cool to the touch. This allows the user to easily position the light where it is needed. The current standard in energy-efficient lighting, compact fluorescent bulbs have a life that is about three to four times longer than that of incandescent bulbs, and use about a quarter of the electricity. The light output of the 13 watt compact fluorescent is 780 lumins?about the same as a 60 watt incandescent bulb.

As an object that was inspired by nature, it was important to evaluate and minimize the environmental impact all of the materials and processes used to manufacture the light. Consequently, it is 84 percent recyclable at the end of its useful life, and is comprised of 12 percent recycled materials.

The combination of iconic design, environmental practices and a consumer driven experience puts the Ardea light far above the competition.
