Entry Description

Farallon is a dining chair and side chair that contains hidden storage spaces and pockets. It is designed to be a simple, elegant piece of furniture that offers additional functionality specifically addressing the needs of a contemporary lifestyle.

More than just a dining chair, Farallon simplifies the clutter of technology, creating new surfaces for changing needs. The simple, clever design brings a sense of adaptability to seating through functions created directly from its continuous fabric seat.

As lives become more complicated and cluttered, simplicity becomes a necessity and our homes need to adapt to our changing needs. Farallon offers the user duality of function. The chair is an elegant, comfortable place to rest, dine, entertain and relax. The folds and pockets offer additional storage space that is hidden from sight, yet still accessible when needed. The chair?s open seat and back construction, adapts to the user?s body creating a soft ergonomic feel. The lightness of the chair is ideal for easy mobility; the chair can be moved from room to room or from home to home.

The Farallon?s simple bent tubing and fabric-sleeve construction can be seen as a descendent of the classic 50?s Italian tube chair. Only this time around, its functions have been adapted for our new personal technologies, as well as the old newspaper too.

Farallon?s silhouette highlight?s the simplicity of construction, but belies the hidden functions the chair has to offer. A single, continuous piece of fabric flows over the frame, creating a dip in between the back of the chair and the seat. Sometime-laptop pocket, sometime-newspaper storage, the center fold visually connects seat and backrest without an internal structure, reducing clutter around the chair, but keeping necessities accessible. It also has a front side pocket that allows the person sitting to purge their pockets of cell phones and keys...thus increasing comfort without cluttering the table, creating new daily habits that reduce clutter and simplify life.
