Andel's Hotel Krakow

Lead Designers
Entry Description

This 158 room hotel, close by the historic centre of Krakow, follows the great success of Jestico + Whiles? Andel?s Hotel and Andel?s Suites in Prague. The design develops the core principles established by the previous Andel?s of style and comfort, with respect for the specific requirements of the traveller in this part of the world.

The design and detail makes reference to the locality, using the best locally sourced materials. Warm, textured, riven stone lines the rear of the reception, contrasting with burnished metallic shells enclosing the restaurant. The shells interlock to locate and define zones, establishing set routes and views through the building, while allowing space to flow freely.

The bars are designed in response to the brief for a 24/7 space, welcoming for both the business and leisure guest, the individual and groups, optimistic in the day and intimate and louche in the evening. The bars are lined with locally sourced stained glass in saturated colours with warm stained timber.

The bedroom and bathroom are simple and functional but warm and rich. Every detail has been considered and purpose designed. A window of flame coloured raw silk connects the bathroom to the bedroom, contrasting with lines of violet back-lit glass illuminating the shower.

Andel?s Krakow is the latest in Jestico + Whiles roll-out of the Andel?s concept in central Europe.

Bio

Jestico + Whiles has grown steadily since the formation of the partnership by Tom Jestico and John Whiles in 1979, and in recent years the practice has undergone particularly rapid growth as it diversifies into a range of different sectors and builds on its reputation for design quality and innovative solutions to challenging briefs.

The practice has always been proud of the diversity in its workload, ranging from schools for disadvantaged children to University departments, hostels for the homeless to five-star boutique hotels and restaurants, master-planning of residential developments to the complete regeneration of inner city neighbourhoods, individual office fit outs to the building of corporate headquarters, designer shop interiors to complete retail malls and individual houses to high rise apartments.

The practice?s design reputation covers both new-build and the sensitive, contemporary, refurbishment of historic buildings. The ambition to bring design excellence to the rejuvenation of existing building stock exemplifies our commitment to sustainability and quality of design in all forms of construction. Our reputation for excellence is well established both nationally and internationally, with recent projects completed in India, China and throughout Eastern Europe (Poland, Bratislava, Croatia, Latvia, Czech Republic).

The practice incorporates a thriving specialist interior design studio, which attracts independent appointments based on its own excellent reputation, whilst also working in collaboration with the architecture studio. In 2006 we won Interior Designer of the year in the Building Design Awards.
