Entry Description

"Safety Table"
Earthquake and tornado kills thousands of people every year. It has been proved hiding under a table or other furniture is not a safety way. Normal table are very easy to be crushed by bricks and concrete. A research by Doug Copp, the rescue chief of the American Rescue Team International A.R.T.I. shows that most of survivors are protected in a triangle space created by falling objects. If you look into collapsed building you will find triangle space everywhere. It is the most stable shape which can save lives.
"Safety Table" is a special desk designed to create a triangle protection for earthquake or tornado emergency.
As hiding under a desk is a human instinct, a special desk is the best way to protect oneself. Mostly Safety Table is common furniture like other desks. Once earthquake or tornado coming, people can hide under the Safety Table and close the desktop immediately. When the desk-board closed, the total desk is transformed into a triangle-the most stable form. Benefit from the triangle form, it can be more toughness without using too much metal which may turn it into a heavy cage.
The metal parts of ?Safety Table? are the main structures including side frames, rotation axis, connecting part. They are made of high strength steel. Backside of the desk is covered by plastic board on metal frames. The yellow plastic boards were designed with toughness form to resist shock. There are also metal frame under the wood tabletop, desk-board can be locked on the side frame when closed or opened. Inside the desk hard parts are surrounded by soft fabrics will reduce impact in addition.

It is hardly that people will be trapped inside Safety Table. After the emergency situation, it is easy to come out from the desk by unlock the covering tabletop. If building collapsed, people can come out from the side or disconnect any one of the plastic board from inside. If every side is blocked, one can use assembled speaker to yelp for help. Fresh air can come in from side and back. There is an emergency box in which user can put water、foods for precaution. A wireless positioning system for rescue team to locate survivors is in development for Safety Table.
