Entry Description

The architecture of the Korea Pavilion for Milan Expo was inspired from Korean and Italian tradtional architectural elements: vault, rotunda, maru(piloti), madang(courtyard). While the Milano Expo site has been planned with a Decumanus-inspired Roman geometric structure, the Korea Pavilion has been designed with an organic traditional Korean shape. In this way it conveys a message of harmony between East and West.
The exhibition hall of the Korean Pavilion is on an elevated space from the ground while the ground level becomes open for a freer and more public flow of circulation. The ground space is open to all, and filled with temporary stage, food stands, and restaurants. It is through this space that the visitors will be able to freely navigate between the diverse spaces of the surrounding site.
