Entry Description: TEXAS RANCH VERNACULAR REDEFINED Rolling pastures and picturesque lakes set the stage for a surprisingly upscale contemporary ranch house hidden half a mile from the main road. The bucolic setting, dotted with lazy herds of speckled long horn cattle, and world class horses, is interrupted by enormous bronze sculptures that hint at the museum quality art collection to be revealed within the extraordinary home of 22,000 square feet. Starting with a Western Art collection of the finest artists in America, and the largest sterling parade saddle collection in the world, adding equal portion of contemporary art from Texas, Berlin, and New York, the bar was set high for the home design. Collaboration between the designer and architect melded into an open design focused on the wonders of the outdoors, juxtaposing huge window walls with vast wall space for art display. Custom furnishings in bold color, texture and design seal the exquisite experience!

About the Designer/Company
Mary Anne Smiley, recognized by her peers as one of the top designers in Dallas since 2007, was born in Seminole, Oklahoma and is an honor graduate of Oklahoma State University. One of the first designers registered in the State of Texas after passing the NCIDQ exam, Mary Anne is a professional member of ASID, and is level IV qualified in AutoCAD. She has been published in a myriad of publications, and is the recipient of numerous awards for excellence in design. She began drawing house plans in fourth grade. Her obsession led her to enroll in Architecture at OSU. But it was the mid 60’s and to her surprise she was informed by the Dean that “women do not enroll in architecture.” Not to be daunted, she walked across the street to enroll in Interior Design and Fine Art and launched her successful career in interior design. She professes it has been a marvelous adventure ever since. Mary Anne’s career path has taken her from Oklahoma to Colorado, California, and Texas with projects completed on both coasts and all in between. Ms. Smiley is known for her use of bright pops of pure color supported by soft lovely pearl finish backgrounds, and for her avant-garde mix of exquisite antiques and layers of sumptuous textiles with contemporary and cutting edge art and products from metallic to recycled plastic. Her AutoCAD skills have given her the ability to design her own furnishings and products, when unique and creative solutions are required, resulting in recognition for product design. Ms. Smiley loves color and was one of the pioneers of the use of bright color in Dallas, and consequently in the US.
