Entry Description

I consider my greatest achievement to be my firm’s involvement in the Atlanta - Salcedo Park in the Dominican Republic.

The park is in commemoration of three heroines who were killed by that country’s dictator. They fought for freedom and women rights. The day they were murdered is commemorated as the day for non violence for women. Their “underground” movement to free people of suppression and tyranny resulted in code names for the three sisters – Butterfly One, Two and Three.

My design featured a park with a children’s playground area and an amphitheater for the by performing artists and gatherings. The amphitheater is in the form of a butterfly taking flight giving reference and honor to the sisters and their code names. The park is part of the Atlanta-Salcedo Sister City Program and received recognition from the International Sister City Program Committee.
