Entry Description

The thermostat is a device that exists in every home, but
is often a source of frustration for the user. Our goal was
to design an on-device interface that makes the process
of scheduling the thermostat as intuitive as possible, for
people of all ages and tech-savviness. The Hive Active
Heating Thermostat 2 utilizes natural voice, asking
specific questions to guide the user through the process
of scheduling heating and hot water. The dial in the
center of the device is a natural tool to input responses,
and buttons on the device light up to show the user
clearly what to press. The user then has the ability to
schedule up to 5 unique heating times per day, with
options for manual overrides and holiday modes. Large
fonts and bright colors help users even with poor vision
to utilize the device, and the screen disappears when not
in use.
