VIA 57 WEST creates a new typology – the “courtscraper.”
VIA combines the advantages of European perimeter block
and the traditional Manhattan high-rise: the compactness,
density, and intimacy of a classic courtyard building, with
the airiness and the expansive views of a skyscraper. In a
similar manner, VIA’s ‘Scandamerican’ interior blends
Scandinavian design and American comfort with an
emphasis on richly textured natural materials such as brick,
white oak, recycled leather, and blackened steel. The spatial
progression brings you from the street into a refined,
elegant, and minimal lobby with direct views to the natural
environment of the courtyard. Like a metropolitan backyard,
the courtyard recreates habitats native to the Hudson River
Valley and is framed by all the amenities of the building,
fostering a sense of community for the residents. From
above, residents can look into an urban oasis, their very
own Central Park.
