Entry Description

SCAR provides a transitional center and temporary
shelter for ex-convicts who are released to reintegrate
with society through a regulated but friendly
environment that will assist them to smooth their
progression. The building is partly situated in the
historic preserved old Chatham County; SCAR
respects, adapts and challenges the presence of the
original building and connects through an organic
movement that progresses from more confined
dormitories to less restricted areas where the residents
start to appreciate freedom. The building is stitched by
a main entrance as a visual rupture of the elongated
shape as a symbol of the ex-convict’s scars, as an
imagery of self - improvement and hope. The facility
houses a maximum of 40 residents, whose dormitories
are located throughout the building according to their
criminal records and the level of surveillance they
require. All residents are equally allowed to enjoy the
recreational activities and programs of the facility.
