Cloud Cuckoo House sits at altitude, 800m above sea level. When fog drifts into the valley, this young family’s home floats above the clouds, with a magical view across the fairytale landscape of the Upper-Rhine area.
The existing 1950s detached house on the hillside site was partly demolished, and the ground floor reconfigured. Atop this sits a new prefabricated timber structure containing open-plan living spaces.
An 8m window offers panoramic views 50km down the Rhine valley. A void was cut through the existing ceiling, where a continuous oak staircase now flows through the house, to the beautiful Black Forest beyond.
