Located in the south of city, hundreds of years, silently stood at the alley and near the ancient city wall , it was listed as the protection buildings to being repaired. On the north of the original house, two pseudo-classic architectures were built to constitute three enclosed open courtyards.With the unsophisticated and narrow entrance, people bow to cross and rise brightly. “LAI Yard” is named after “Lai”, which means it is from far to here, from traditional to contemporary. The architect wishes to convey the modern architecture in the traditional courtyard.
The layout of this project is decent, but also full with surprising details. Contrary elements, such as the old and the new, the interior and the exterior, the light and the dark, the conventional and the contemporary, are found to meet here, and merge into a harmony existence. Light and Space, are the only two themes that the architect emphasized.
About the Designer/Company
Minggu Design was founded by the pioneer architect and interior designer Jaco. Pan in 2007.
Jaco. Pan, Nanjing based architect, focuses on the motivation that design innovation creates for the present social progress and how the pioneering design provides protection and leading trends to human lifestyle, also concentrating on the practice using of what kind of role that the Chinese traditional architecture culture heritage plays in contemporary society. Meanwhile, he assumes that Chinese architects shall practice design primarily on the cognition of knowing their territory and culture, and design is aesthetic science turning to research human and nature. In decades of design journey from architecture to interior, he’s been struggling to explore the essence in nature throughout with his notable philosophy that the combination of Chinese style nature and its people is spiritual code existing anywhere. For the common viewpoint rooted in most of architects’ mind that design from external world excels ourselves certainly, however, he always highlights ‘no design without appropriate research.’
