Entry Description

Humanscale’s Horizon LED task light celebrates two great traditions in modern design: platonic minimalism and organic form. With Horizon, designers Peter Stathis and Michael McCoy set out to create an elegant, sustainable, cradle-to-cradle product that is engineered for exceptional energy efficiency while satisfying the focused lighting needs of any interior.

Stathis and McCoy employed three main components in Horizon’s design: an ultra-thin, rectangular lamp head, an elegant round base, and a minimal support stem connected to the base and lamp head by spherical joints. An organic, membrane-like skin forms the cover for the lens and base, leaving no exposed wiring or mechanical fasteners to distract from the luminous beauty of the light itself. The resulting aesthetic is a unique hybrid of architectural rectilinear forms and natural organic forms.

The spherical joints in Horizon’s head and base facilitate smooth, fluid positioning. The lamp’s head offers a full range of adjustability in all axes and variable height control so the light source can be positioned exactly where it’s needed.

The first task light to utilize Thin Wave LED Technology, Horizon eliminates the weaknesses of traditional LED task lights by producing an ultra-wide footprint of warm, glare-free 3000K light—excellent for ergonomic illumination and beautiful light in any environment. Its built-in dimmer control offers 10 levels of adjustable illumination to customize light intensity according to each task. Further adding to its functionality, Horizon remembers the previous-session’s lighting level, offers a night-light setting and displays an internal indicator light so it can be easily located in a darkened room.

Engineered for incredible energy efficiency and a long life of service, Horizon consumes only 11 watts of power and is rated for 50,000-60,000 hours of use. Its advanced design dramatically minimizes the number of components and simplifies disassembly. Made predominantly of recycled aluminum, Horizon’s content is 95% recyclable.
