Desicription:

Vaddio, a leading manufacturer of PTZ cameras, has seen a growing concern from architects and consultants over the aesthetics of electronics placed in conference rooms and meeting places. As flat screen technologies have made displays easier to install and blend into a wall, PTZ cameras are still being surface-mounted and as a result protrude out into the room. The Vaddio REVEAL IN-Wall camera systems are designed to install the camera into the wall and have the same aesthetics as a flat screen display.

The design and development team challenged themselves to escape the prevailing plastic encapsulated “obtrusive” video electronic technologies, and found an opportunity to develop and redevelop the raw technologies themselves into a complete product.

Vaddio’s revolutionary REVEAL IN-Wall PTZ cameras are the first in Vaddio’s Architectural Series of fine video products. The REVEAL was conceived to blend into high-end videoconference and presentation rooms as the aesthetics match closely to that of flat screen monitors in shape, color and finish. The showpiece of the REVEAL IN-Wall PTZ Camera is the smart glass technology framing system which when activated, frosts or shades the glass cover and shuts off the camera so there is no mistake that the REVEAL is on or off. This ensures that conference participants know what state the camera is in (on or off) which is important in the high-end room system designs. The REVEAL glass is composed of one of two liquid crystal matrix technologies, laminated between ITO coatings and glass. When the camera is turned on, the glass switches to its clear state, the camera homes and is ready for use. While the design and appeal of the REVEAL is noted, the electronics inside are also just as impressive.

This electronic glass faceplates were co-developed with three of the leading distributors in the US, integrating their technical expertise with films, specially cut glass, and screened graphics. An entirely new robotic PTZ framework was developed by Loppet Design which allows the camera to pan, tilt, and zoom within the smallest space possible: the spherical volume of the moving camera body itself. Recessed in a box that reaches the full depth of the wall cavity, the camera is designed to integrate with Vaddio’s HSDS Quick-Connect controller systems. Installations can be configured to fit in any new or existing ultra-modern thru old world sophisticated videoconferencing or presentation environment.

Significant attributes of the REVEAL include the use of a 1/3-type, 1.3 megapixel CCD image sensor for
crisp clear images, 18X glass optical zoom and a focal length of 4.7-84.6mm lens and 1.8 LUX rating which works well in small or large rooms and low light environments. Equipped with a horizontal pan of ± 40° and vertical tilt of + 25° & - 40°, the REVEAL Frosted Smart Glass PTZ Camera offers a field view of 55.2° (wide end) to 3.2° (tele end) and supports resolutions up to HD 1080p/60. the IN-Wall enclosure uses the depth of the wall cavity eliminating the cameras extension into the room, and the REVEAL works with the Vaddio HSDS™ (DVI-D/HDMI) cabling standard for video, power and control. The REVEAL looks as good as it does on the inside as the outside and provides superior images for wide range of HD applications.

Bio

Jeffrey Popowski is a designer who inspires to make great ideas become real products. "Great design is key to presenting new technologies to the world in an intuitive and usable way. To continually provide successful results for our clients, the cost targets, timelines, and manufacturability are equally as important as aesthetics when applying newly discovered or desired features and technologies. Visualizing more of the engineering challenges early, and the ability to prototype, test, and iterate the design are all fundamental to making sure these elements come together into a truly innovative product." Credited with numerous utility patents for new product technologies realized as medical devices, consumer electronic devices, and industrial safety equipment, Jeffrey currently leads Loppet Design, a product development consultancy in Minnesota, USA.
