Mother of pearl
acoustic wall panels for Barnes Foundation, Philadelphia (USA)
The Barnes Foundation commissioned the Dutch textile artist Claudy Jongstra to create a series of silk and wool felt panels that integrate with the architecture. The design was executed in cooperation with TWBT architects.
Claudy Jongstra designed a ‘white on white’ silk on wool felt that is serene and of pure beauty. It visually melts together with the Israeli limestone that lines the walls and the natural light that comes through the ceiling. The sensation of these tactile acoustic wall pieces can be best described as ‘Mother of Pearl’. Each panel is a unique designed piece and together these eleven panels form an applied art piece.
