We designed a seasonal pergola structure for the hotel plaza, at the foot of the Highline Park elevated railway. The black painted steel structure was engineered to be appear both solidly constructed to sit comfortably amidst the concrete base of the hotel and the solidity of the high-line structure, yet be able to be erected and dismantled easily. The roof sheathing of the pergola is antique corrugated wire-glass, its green glass and waves giving a ripple of light into the dining area below. The pergola also provides shelter for a kitchen, including a wood burning stove and service areas, which feeds a larger area of the plaza, and an outdoor eating area for an adjacent restaurant. A testament the success of the pergola is that its season of use has been extended, earlier in Spring and later in the Fall.
