Entry Description

Masculine identity and its relationship to the physical form is examined in this menswear collection; desire, ambiguity and the sensation of pleasure. Hold draws a sensual tailored silhouette that embraces the male figure, admiring male beauty by gently sculpting the form. The silhouette has been designed to embrace the body, as if in an affectionate embrace.

Traditional aspects of men’s bespoke tailoring have been consolidated with the designer’s foundations in dressmaking to refine the sensual silhouette of Hold. The collection is crafted to examine the cloth’s relationship with the male form. Rather than using a block, the fabric has been draped directly onto the figure. By examining the fall of the cloth, and subtly easing it close to the body, to follow the natural structure of a male’s physique, the form of the garment is achieved. Design features are unique, such as stand collars that wrap
around the neck and vanish behind the button extension. The line created by this draws your eye up towards the face creating intimacy. Subtle re-proportioning and re-positioning of traditional tailoring conventions are used; trousers are drawn into the waist, draped to wrap up the legs with the volume of fabric constrained by the waistband.

The selection of cloth focuses on ‘white noise’; a range of high quantity fabrics, textures and prints which emulate flickering and visual static. Knitwear is hand knitted made from Australian 100% Merino wool, and the collection includes digital prints, wool milton, wool herringbone, flocked wool, speckled mesh, cotton-lurex and cotton-silk blends. Fez hats are constructed from contrasting felts. The inspiringly rich layering of textured and printed fabrics generates a constrained romanticism; Hold.
