Entry Description

G Hotel Kelawi is an urban hotel with a contemporary and sophisticated design that appeals to executives and well-heeled business people. There is a lack of high concept & design spaces in Penang, which leaves a void to be filled, there is financial feasibility in developing a hotel dedicated to design and service, that is the opposite of the mediocre, traditional and conventional.
The hotel is located along Jalan Kelawai in the island state of Penang, Malaysia. It sits between Gurney Plaza and Gurney Paragon –2 of the most prominent shopping centres in Penang . The hotel is a 24 storey iconic design hotel with 208 guest rooms, a rooftop infinity edge swimming pool, 3 F&B outlets including a roof top bar, a 24 hour gym, executive lounge, state of the art function rooms and 2 storey basement car park.
The interior design concept is highly driven by the architectural pattern language. The Branding stems from the strong image and identity of both aspects, from the external lines striation shift of the façade screens to abstraction of the rhombus pattern of the expanded mesh –applied as a interwoven lattice motif used for the carpets flowing through the common areas.
Dark greys, warm brown hues with exquisite brass metalworks accentuates the sophisticated character of the space. The use of materials took inspiration from the local crafts and culture as well. Photos reflecting the richness of Penang’s streetscape were thoughtfully curated and displayed throughout the hotel. Local made Peranakan motif tiles were paired with geometric mosaic patterns at the main dining space.
