Entry Description

This chapel is in Dali, Yunnan Province, China, construction will start in 2015. Sited on a side of a mountain, the design makes use of the sloping terrain to generate its form and space. Strips of landscape at different level seemingly flows from the terrain forming arches, reminiscent of the entrances of classical churches. The biggest arch signifies the main entrance which faces the scenic view of Dali Lake, one third the size of Singapore. A viewing platform suspends precariously from the main glass facade, supported by only one column and forming The Cross.

Poem: Ripples and Ripples through the land, flows and flows in space, streams and stream embodying the holiness, drifts and drifts blurring the distinction between landscape and architecture.
