Entry Description: Curated by the Melbourne Design Market, Made by Melbourne features an array of design specialisations and installations including natural yarn knitwear, customisable furniture, ethically sourced homewares, hand printed leggings, woven textile sculptures, knitted jewellery and men’s leather accessories. As part of the market we were invited to create an installation to activate the space. “Home” is a creative piece that embraces the nostalgia of one’s home and is a mish mash of the old and the new. Vintage 1960 paintings covered the back wall, combined with a loud bright contemporary message created from many, many metres of string (actually 1000 metres!). The string plays an important role of tricking the eye, at certain angles it appears 3D, encouraging the viewer to actually question what are they seeing. Is it a word, or is it a pattern? Am I seeing letters, or are these shapes?
