Entry Description: The LifeScale R is a new and unique automated system for microbiology research. Antibiotic susceptibility tests previously took days to complete. The new LifeScale R now provides results in under three hours. The enclosure was functionally designed to keep the liquid samples visible with the lids closed and to take up as little bench space as possible. The aesthetic challenge included utilizing low volume manufacturing processes to produce a high perceived value for a medical/scientific product. The design details include a chamfer that wraps around the top edge of the unit, which reflects the path that individual cells take around the sensor inside. The dual lids on the unit are electronically locked during testing, and lift up with ease when access is needed thanks to special hinges that apply torque to help lift the lids.
