Entry Description

A speculative toy for children who are about to be confronted by new authority figures: like an immigration officer or a social worker — allowing children to turn on their superpower and confront new power dynamics by metaphorically reversing authority roles. Using role-play as a coping mechanism to understand their changing reality. One minute you are a kid with little agency over your future, but, the next one you flip reality and become the immigration officer. When confronted with these new figures, children spin the toy to signify a change in roles.

Sophie is an industrial designer by trade and a design geek at heart. Her passion for design has lead her to explore the design process through many lenses - like research, making, strategic thinking, and business. A recent graduate from the Products of Design master’s program at SVA, where she explored play as a catalyst for childhood equality, envisioning products, brands, services, platforms, and experiences to foster access and agency through design.
