Entry Description

Furniture equipment created as landmark objects for the first school STEM Library in Greece. As part of the Athens #adoptaschool initiative, the objects are parametrically designed and fabricated to assist in a variety of learning scenarios. Moreover, they are daily reminders of the creative reuse potential of cardboard boxes and tubes, promoting environmental awareness and sustainability to high-school students. Those sculpture-like objects actively manifest the unique capabilities of the maker movement and highlight the advantages of STEM projects merging with art, design and ecology.

Bio

TUC TIE Lab was founded in 2012 on the basis of researching, developing and applying human-centered methodologies that target the qualitative upgrade and efficiency of a variety of environments, including learning spaces and playscapes, health environments, habitable extreme environments and cultural spaces. It employs contemporary maker practices, interdisciplinary research approaches and participatory design techniques to explore flexibility, adaptability and transformability in space. Buildings, spaces, equipment and materials are all treated as platforms with a dynamic spatial imprint.
