Entry Description

Set in the not so distant future,The United States is replaced by Gilead, a totalitarian and theocratic state where women’s reproductive organs are regarded as a national resource. In this dystopian future we follow Offred,a handmaid,in her daily struggle to survive in this horrific society. She is willing to resort back to rudimentary activities that were meant to keep women “busy” in older time(cross stitch). I chose to illustrate a woman’s reproductive organ using a cross stitch style. Two crosses derive from the organ to iterate the power religion has over a woman's reproductive organs.
