CDR Studio’s winning submission for the City of Dreams Pavilion competition was a testament to collaboration by the design team, 100+ volunteers who helped build/install it and many other supporters. In response to the 100 billion plastic cups accumulating annually in landfills, we built “Governor’s Cup” from 30,000 previously used cups we collected from around NYC. Inspired by techniques of tape-lace crochet, the structure wrapped in, through and around trees in a serpentine canopy that served as a gathering place for interaction and performance, as well as a playground for kids and adults.
