The Beckerman ?Cabin Fever? Fall 2008 collection has a luxe woodsman aesthetic mixed with Stanley Kubrick?s ?The Shining? to create a feeling of downtown outdoor elegance, mixed with a grunge 80?s vibe.
The knitwear includes bear embroidered cardigans, silk screened birch bark knits and high waist fringe skirts and sweaters. The fabrics are luxurious plaids, lumberjacks and colorful silk crepes.
The Beckerman?s developed their own textiles this season with a connect-the-dot motif made from hand drawn forest animal which is used on blouses and dresses. Another Beckerman original textile print is the brown basket weave log print which is used on draped cowl dresses and frilly tanks.
The cropped militant jackets, biker jackets, petticoats and swinger coats mix menswear fabrics with feminine silhouettes. T-shirt images include bloody typewriters, fire pit monsters and bears wearing lumberjack hats. Grommet hardware is strategically placed around the circle skirts, lapels of collars and on strapless dresses.
This collection combines mystery, woodsman, isolation and country attitude together to create Cabin Fever 2008.
?Their line originated in the childhood dreams of sisters? the Beckermans remain an industrious team? Eric Wilson, The New York Times
Beckerman?s aesthetic of colorful innovation and whimsical chic brings a downtown point of view to contemporary American fashion. Their luxurious, highly detailed clothes have a sense of humor to them. The Beckerman?s strong point of view mixes high craft, feminine details and a sense of street style. The Beckerman label is based in New York where they manufacture their clothing. They believe in using high quality textiles from France, Italy and Japan.
Twins Caillianne and Samantha and younger sister Chloe Beckerman grew up in Toronto, Canada, and together they spent their childhood days immersed in art, learning how to sew, illustrate and dance. Their grandmother owned a knitting store and taught them how to knit, paint and sculpt. They moved to New York in 2000 to pursue their dreams.
At New York?s Fashion Institute of Technology, the Beckermans immersed themselves in the fashion world, each sister studying in an area reflecting their own personal strengths. Caillianne studied Fashion Design, Samantha studied Accessories Design and Chloe studied Textile/Surface Design. Now in their fourth year designing for the label, they continue to create their own original textiles each season to express their sensibility in their own distinctive manner. The design trio has been celebrated for their fun approach to fashion and for their originality. ?The Beckermans, who pride themselves on originality, may have come along at just the right time in the fashion world,? states Sarah Childress in her Newsweek article on the design team.
Before launching Beckerman, the sisters apprenticed at such notable houses as Oscar de la Renta, Bottega Veneta, Marc for Marc Jacobs and Randolph Duke.
Beckerman made its debut when the sisters? thesis graduation collection from FIT, which won the Elle Girl Magazine Scholarship Award, was featured in Nylon magazine. A famous Tokyo department store purchased their entire thesis collection which launched their careers! Today, the three sisters continue to infuse their infinite ideas and dreams into womenswear, and jewelry. Twenty percent of the proceeds from their jewelry line are donated to the Stephen Lewis Foundation in support of Aids relief.
Currently, they are working on designing a furniture collection for Distinctive Designs Furniture Inc., a global furniture manufacturer who is helping them launch their Beckerman Home Collection. For their Spring/Summer 2009 collection, Beckerman added a diffusion line of t-shirts and loungewear with hand drawn illustrations. The Beckerman collection can be found worldwide, in over 125 boutiques including major department stores like Barneys, Henri Bendels and Nordstroms.
Beckerman has been the subject of a four-part series on Newsweek.com, documenting the growth of a young and successful fashion business. They were hailed by the New York Times and on Style.com as the "must see" show of the season. It?s not surprising that Beckerman have garnered a celebrity following: Sienna Miller, Lindsay Lohan, Rachel Bilson, Agyness Deyn, Daria Werbowy and Paris Hilton.
