In this project, designers develop an alternative persona for themselves, one that amplifies, undermines, and rediscovers an element of who they are. After creating a biographical diagram of their alter ego, they produce a new work of design in the mode of that person. Graphic design becomes a visual performance.
My alter ego is a hairdresser, Hugo Austen Walpole. He is a soft-spoken person and owns a small hair salon in downtown London. He loves his job because it allows him to craft beautiful hair cuts with his hands. He also loves reading-books are a solitary comfort for Hugo during his leisure time. Les Misérables, Pride and Prejudice and The Castle of Otranto are the books that Hugo loves most. The beautiful spaces between the lines and the narrative of the books inspire him to create hairstyles.
