Barn X belong to a series of 1950s’ Soviet-style barns in Changsha, Hunan Province. Most of these barns had been gradually disused and demolished, and Barn X became the only one left. We proposed a plan to transform it into a public space, in order to keep its existence. This plan is based on the concepts of restoration, reconstruction, activation and renascence, which aims to protect architectural features of the barn and the historical memory it contains, creating a dialogue between the new modern elements and the historical features of the early Chinese industrial era.
