Derived from the Hindi word 'Laya' which means tempo , mostly used in classical music, also a source of inspiration to my design & research process. These textiles are deeply rooted in ancient artisanal techniques that are collaborative in nature.Passed from one hand to another since generations. There is a sense of harmony, rhythm and restfulness in this act of creation which breathes life into our textiles. It's a wholistic cycle that combines imagination , materials & techniques which needs to be sustained & celebrated for making things that matter. This entry includes handcrafted scarves.
Based out of Bloomfield Hills in Michigan, Studio Variously was started to pursue responsible design with intentional craftsmanship. UN's Sustainable Design Goals are pursued by responsibly sourcing premium pure natural yarns, eco-friendly dyes & ancient artisanal techniques of weaving & dyeing. We design our editions in lifestyle products for home textile products and lifestyle accessories like scarves. The artisans we work with in different parts of India and Nepal are experts in their field , 3rd/4th generation master weavers, dyers whose skills and heritage stories need to be sustained.
