Entry Description

This thesis explores integrating memorial spaces into urban parks, focusing on the Sanctuary of Passage, a prototype for ecologically and culturally sensitive memorial architecture in Singapore’s Ang Mo Kio-Bishan Park. Addressing urban congestion and the loss of burial grounds, the design blends memorial and recreational spaces to enhance the city’s ecological and social fabric. Through a series of ascending spaces symbolizing grief's stages, the proposal respects Singapore’s cultural traditions, offering a model for integrating memorials into urban landscapes globally.
