At the foot of the Harz Mountains a historic and listed ice stadium has been renovated.
The design by GRAFT is characterized by a roof structure that is anchored in just two points; it protects the space from rain, snow, and sunlight, but simultaneously reveals the view to the surrounding mountains and the sky above. The roof positions itself with natural lightness and elegance and merges into the landscape. The historic stadium area transforms into a multifunctional arena presenting a highly touristic attraction The structure was developed in cooperation with schlaich bergermann partner.
GRAFT was founded in 1998 in Los Angeles, California by Lars Krückeberg, Wolfram Putz, and Thomas Willemeit and operates internationally in the fields of urban development, architecture, and design. The hybrid office with further locations in Berlin and Beijing is characterized by its innovative and interdisciplinary design method and its futuristic design language.
