The shape adopted for the Paloma footbridge was the result of the site constraints and the functional requirements defined in the specifications for the design contest organised by the municipal government. The 190 m long, continuous four-span deck is curved in the plan view and designed as a spatial steel truss girder with an open, C-shaped cross-section. Special attention was paid to the shaping of structural members and good detailing, as well as to the finishes. The bridge constitutes an example of how demanding boundary conditions may inspire careful and even innovative structural design.
