DirecTV?s Satellite to Go (SAT-GO) is the first portable and complete satellite television system. It combines an LCD screen, receiver and satellite antenna in a single unified carrying case. It is to be used by emergency service organizations such as FEMA, Red Cross, police, firefighters, etc to provide satellite information when ground based communications have been compromised. SAT-GO can also be used as a portable playback and all-in-one viewing system on film and television production sets. This is a category-defining product for DirecTV.
SAT-GO is compact, self contained and easily deployable. The antenna, which is housed in the upper half of the case, rotates 180 degrees for satellite acquisition. This reveals the 17? LCD display which simply flips open for viewing. For at home use, the unified receiver and display can be removed from the antenna/case and positioned conveniently in the home as a conventional television. Once the unit is opened, the quick and simple setup makes it easy for customers to find a satellite signal and receive programming within minutes.
It was important that SAT-GO be a highly portable product. The exterior case and integrated antennae draw inspiration from familiar products such as a briefcase or luggage. The interior component, consisting of the LCD screen/receiver, was designed with a familiar consumer electronics feel. SAT-GO builds upon this familiarity so that the user instinctively knows this item is meant to be portable.
SAT-GO is designed for simple disassembly so that the parts are easily recyclable. The low impact materials such as ABS plastic require minimal energy to produce.
