Entry Description

Five hundred square metres, six and a half metres high, with a self-supporting timber structure covered with a translucent membrane - this is the Frankfurt Pavilion, a new landmark for the Frankfurt Book Fair (10-14 October 2018). This temporary yet robust structure that can be easily stored and erected again, consists of three interlayered scalloped timber structures. Three entrance ramps allow visitors handicapped accessible entry into the clear interior. The ribbed timber structure not only functions as walls but also as book shelfs, creating the atmosphere of a library cocoon.

Bio

Till Schneider and Michael Schumacher founded schneider+schumacher in Frankfurt am Main in 1988. Their legendary information box, erected shortly after reunification on what was then the largest construction site in Berlin, brought the office worldwide recognition. Since then, more than 100 buildings, urban development projects and numerous product designs have emerged. The office’s spectrum ranges from housing to industrial buildings, a highway church to high-rises, and from museum work to a particle accelerator.
