Entry Description

This building is located in Xiamen, China, with an area of approximately 24,000 square meters. It is a comprehensive building combining a music hall and an office block. The ground floor is the main entrance of the whole building, while the first and second storeys are the music hall, expressing an integration of enterprise and music art.

A major challenge facing the designer is the poor building structure, creating many difficulties for the interior design. Decorations are used to face such hindrance. The design proposal is to implement musical elements into a modern office block trying to blend the two as one.

As one enters the building entrance, there is a three-dimensional sculpture suspended from the ceiling, catching one’s first sight and attraction. It is a hanging ornament combined with the 5 lines and the musical pipes instruments suspended from a quadrangular ceiling, which is the Theme sculpture of the music hall region, different from typical office lobby. The two spherical sculpture underneath is the enterprise logo, which clearly represents the building and its nature.

Going up the arc shaped staircases, there is the first entrance to the music hall. After passing through a characteristic door arch, one will see different statues holding different musical instruments on both sides of the staircase. The main wall position is marked by the “bass clef” symbol which in fact is the floor for the general audiences. When one steps up the streamlined staircases, there is another main wall marked by the “treble clef”symbol, meaning that one has arrived the floor for the distinguished guests.

The overall design is a fusion of the enterprise's commercial characters together with music art culture, making the two in harmony instead of in opposition.
