Entry Description

The purpose of this project is to explore the benefits
of applying Attention Restoration theories and
principles of Biophilic design in an scholastic setting in
order to improve the educational and social
performance of children with Attention-Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder.
The design concept, “The journey is more important
than the destination” together with a focus on nature,
individual child, and spirituality created the project
foundation. The result is a Small Learning Community
which offers students flexibility, exploration, privacy,
and escape. The design and programmatic use of the
space supports a sense of individual ownership
allowing students to be in charge of their own
learning.
Set adjacent to a park, children intermingle with nature
as they move through and within the spaces, which
also offer abundance of daylight and vistas. Emphasis
was placed on providing learning areas which are fluid
and flexible in order to support a variety of learning
styles.
