For generations, being a “real man” has been defined by a rigid set of expectations including being an emotionless, heterosexual, able-bodied breadwinner. This portrayal has come to be termed the Man Box and its validity has been perpetuated by men and women alike. This publication details the characteristics of the Man Box as well as its associated fallout, but it also points out that the time has now come to “unpack” the Man Box. As the economic security that once supported the system begins to wane, “cultural changes are in motion that will end the primacy of the Man Box once and for all.”
