This design is for a national concert hall in Vilnius, Lithuania. It is inspired by the determination of the Lithuanians in their struggle for freedom in the 20th century, leading up to their independence. The monumental rectangular building symbolizes the stoic and steadfast resolution of the nation in the face of the many difficulties on the nation’s road to independence. The numerous columns enclose the form like a cage, representing the repression upon the nation throughout the horrors of the World Wars. The curved openings symbolize the zeal of the people breaking free from the shackles.
