Minimum Space, Maximum Living is a conceptual design prototype. In many large cities around the world people find themselves sacrificing space and comfort for the convenience of inner city living. These generally results in individuals renting small studio apartments or converted warehouse spaces. The idea behind this concept is to maximise the living environment by catering for three of the four different levels of human interaction (public, social, private and intimate) within a space of 13sqm. This freestanding unit contains a living/entertainment area (social), a workspace (private), and bedroom (intimate) and a closet for storage.
Each of these spaces become more enclosed and more private. The social area is very open and welcoming to guests, but when in this space you cannot see through to the more private areas due to wings on either side that create a focus within each space. This is the same in the private workspace, wings are located in peripheral view from the desk, allowing for focus. This space creates a sense of focus without the necessity of shutting a door to eliminate distraction. The bedroom is more enclosed, but not confining. This space is cocoon-like in its shape, due to that angles of the walls and the size of the opening, this space feels safe and comforting, as well as intimate.
The idea behind this structure is that it can be placed in any room and instantly creates four different living spaces. It is a freestanding unit that could be dismantled and transported to different locations, so the lifecycle and sustainability of the product would also increase.
