Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC) of the
University of Pennsylvania Health System improved and
expanded its existing ambulatory and acute care
programs.
PPMC unites more than 20 medical and surgical
specialists and aims at improving patient and family
comfort. In addition to the 60 inpatient critical care beds,
PPMC is also the new home of Penn Medicine's Level I
Regional Resource Trauma Center.
High contrast materials and pops of bright colors assist
with patient and visitor anxiety. Large expanses of color
create organization and calm by allowing medical
equipment to fall away from perception. Color and
material transitions were also utilized to distinguish
between staff, patient and family zones.
Locations for large scale photography were designed into
the project in waiting rooms, treatment spaces and
elevator lobbies. PPMC ran a local photography contest
allowing Philadelphians to submit photos to be turned into
murals and over 20 images were selected.
