Many rivers flow through Taichung. The city’s plentiful manhole covers point to the traditional role of the city’s waterways. Chosen to help narrate this connection between Taichung’s waters and its urban spaces were artists TSOU Page, CHEN Chu-Li, and PAN Inca, who created manhole cover illustrations for the districts of Fengyuan, Shuinan, and Taiping. The designs have gradually found their place throughout Taichung, becoming a new form of urban aesthetics. They welcome visitors to arrive at a deeper understanding of Taichung, one that starts from the ground up!
