Mechanica serves as a refuge and community space for the people of residential Buffalo. The community has faced a long history of severe winter storms that heavily affect low-income areas like Schiller Park. Mechanica being housed within the park gives it direct access to serve the community that needs it the most. The community requires architecture that is resilient and fast-acting against an unpredictable storm. Mechanica strives to provide these spaces through its integration of simple machines within pragmatic spaces to create a larger machine that works for the community around it.
