BE KIND, FOR EVERYONE YOU MEET IS FIGHTING A HARD BATTLE. - PLATO In the wake of the recent economic recession, people are still struggling to get back on their feet. Finding a job straight out of college has been increasingly difficult, leading to a growth in youth homelessness. To be homeless already at an early age, before even getting a chance to prove oneself in society can have devastating effects on mental health. Undeniably this will lead to a negative trend, difficult to break. New Horizon responds to this upcoming social issue by redefining the typology for homeless shelters. By combining a restaurant, affordable housing, and a culinary school in the heart of Jacksonville, New Horizon gives homeless youth an unprecedented opportunity to find their way back to society. Through its emphasis on a close connection to the street, the building acts as a gateway to the local community.
